BASIX Certificate for Swimming Pools in NSW

At the BASIX Certificate Centre, we provide BASIX Certificates for swimming pools and spas across NSW, prepared by one of our experienced assessors and ready for council submission.

At the BASIX Certificate Centre, we can provide you with a BASIX Certificate for your swimming pool or spa in NSW for as little as $70.00 (including GST).

NB: As of the 1st October 2023 the NSW Department of Planning will charge fees for generating a BASIX Certificate, and this will be added to our price, being $33.00 (including GST)

Do you need a BASIX Certificate for a pool or spa?

Since 1 October 2006, any new Development Application in NSW for a swimming pool with a capacity of 40,000 litres or more requires a BASIX Certificate. This also applies to outdoor spas. Pool and spa capacity is measured as the amount of water the pool holds when filled to the manufacturer's specified level.

Why pools and spas are included in BASIX

The average domestic swimming pool in NSW holds around 45,000 litres, and due to evaporation, splash, and backwash, typically needs roughly half that volume topped up every year. This adds around 10% to a household's usual water consumption. Pool pumps also add meaningfully to energy use, averaging over 1,500 kWh a year (about 17% more than the average NSW household), with heated pools using even more energy and water.

We provide a free fee proposal so you know the cost upfront.

We provide you with a draft of the compliance items, and will discuss any questions or changes.

Once agreed, we issue your BASIX Certificate, ready to submit with your Development Application or CDC.

Most straightforward residential jobs are turned around within a few business days. For urgent projects, let us know when you get in touch and we'll do what we can to prioritise it.

Additional Government Costs

As of the 1st July 2011, the NSW Department of Planning in charge of BASIX will impose a cost for generating a BASIX Certificate, which in general will be $50.00 new homes plus a reduced fee per dwelling for Multi-Units, plus from 1st October 2023 an additional Portal Fee charge of $5.00 per certificate, making our change with GST being a total of $60.00.

Plus, from 30th September 2011, the cost of $25.00 will apply to Alterations & Additions, plus Swimming Pools & Spas, plus the Portal Fee, making a total cost of $33.00 with GST.
