BASIXBasix Certificate Centre

On 1st July 2004 the NSW Government implemented the Building Sustainability Index (commonly referred to as BASIX).

This index sets compulsory design standards for the whole of NSW with the purpose of reducing the use of potable water and to produce less greenhouse gas emissions.

We will provide you with a BASIX Certificate which is  currently required for all new development applications associated with new Residential Dwellings, such as:

  • Single Dwellings

  • Residential alterations & additions ($50,000 & more)

  • Swimming pools & outdoor spas (40,000 litres & more)

  • Dual Occupancy dwellings

  • Granny Flats

  • Boarding Houses

  • Guest Houses

  • Hostels

  • Lodging Houses & Backpacker accommodation under 300m²

  • Villas

  • Town Houses

  • Low-rise, mid-rise & high rise developments

How much does a BASIX Certificate cost?

 

BASIX sets out specific Energy & Water Targets and the current figures are:

  • Energy Target of 40% 
    Multi-dwelling developments of 6 storeys or more has 20%

  • Water Target ranges from 40% to 0% (Determined by climate)

BASIX also requires your development to pass the Thermal Comfort requirements.
